Tarot One Card: What Question to Ask

Can one simple question unlock your success?

When your decision counts, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and lose focus. You can overthink it – feel pulled in too many directions and fail to see the wood for the trees. What if you could step back, see the bigger picture and let your inner wisdom solve the dilemma?

In my own life and business, I use the tarot reading extensively. Like a lot of people, I’d had a pack of cards in my desk-drawer for years, but I only started to use them when things got desperate. Really desperate. Now I rely on them every day to generate ideas, clarify my vision and initiate action.

Forget complicated spreads. Forget committing the meanings of all those cards to memory. The most important thing I found was that a single tarot card can provide all the direction, inspiration and reassurance you need. Just one card can help you regain focus, inspire fresh ideas and offer you the clarity you need to align your next move with your vision and purpose.

You just have to ask the right question.

One Card Tarot as a Tool for Success

No longer confined to ‘woo-woo’ and mystical ‘fortune-telling’, tarot is fast gaining recognition as a powerful tool for creative problem-solving and manifestation. Imagine combining your rational intelligence with your intuitive imagination, along with all the knowledge and experience you’ve gained over the years – unlocking insights that empower not just your business decisions but your personal growth as well.

You don’t need to learn complex spreads and analyse complicated meanings. Drawing just one card can give you all the information you need to open the door to your own deeper understanding and insight about the situation.

It’s simple – ask one clear question and reflect on the answer that’s given to you.

Every deck comes with its own little booklet that gives the meaning of each card. The difficulty in reading a tarot spread the traditional way, is understanding how all those different meanings work together to influence each other. When you pick just one card, that’s no longer a problem. You can read the definition and allow your intuition and imagination to reflect on the message so that it becomes meaningful to you – in the way that is exactly right for you.

Card reading can empower you to achieve clarity and confidence while staying true to your unique vision. The key is asking the right question. Asking a simple ‘yes/no’ question, for example, is doomed to failure. The cards can’t foretell your fate – there are no ‘yes’ or ‘no’ cards, tarot is much more subtle than that. It tells you how and where the currents are flowing around you in your life – you can swim with the current, or you can keep banging into the rocks!

You need to translate your query into an open question – a ‘what’ or ‘how’ or ‘where’ type of question.

For example, the question, ‘Will this project be successful?’ can be rephrased as, ‘What strengths should I focus on to make this project successful?’ or, ‘What do I need to know to move this project forward?’ Do you see how this gives you so much more agency in the outcome? The future isn’t set in stone, it’s what you do that makes things happen.

Reflect on the answer that you get. Use your imagination and insight to think about it – journal or free-write about it. Don’t just focus on the words, look at the card itself. What do you see, how does it make you feel?

What Question to Ask

When You Need Clarity for Complex Decisions

Ask the question: What energy do I need to embrace to make this decision?

Every business person knows the pressure of decision-making: choosing the right client, pursuing a new venture or navigating workplace dynamics. These moments often come with emotional fog -fear, doubt or hesitation – which doesn’t help. The result is often over-thinking.

Drawing a single tarot card can cut through the noise and shine a clear light on your options.

For example:
The Two of Wands’ standard definition says: ‘Planning for the future, early progress, taking the first steps,’ which could have a clear resonance for your situation. The card usually depicts someone holding a globe of the world in their hands, looking out over the landscape. This might encourage you to look beyond your current limitations, reminding you to think big and trust your vision. What would it feel like to stand at the edge of a new venture, holding the world in your hands?

By asking a clear question you invite your own intuitive wisdom and imagination into the process, creating clarity from your own immense store of knowledge and experience.

When You Need to Reconnect With Your Purpose

Ask the question: What can I focus on this week to align my work with my vision?

It’s easy to lose sight of your deeper “why” in the daily grind. Card reading offers a moment to pause and reflect, helping you reconnect with your core values, vision and mission. Your goals become clearer and your path more obvious.

Cards like The Star or The Empress remind you to lead from a place of inspiration and creativity, aligning your professional efforts with your soul’s purpose. This not only re-energizes your approach to work but also ensures that your business reflects who you truly are.

Tarot provides a compass, keeping you anchored in authenticity.

When You Need to Activate Your Creative Vision

Ask the question: What energy will inspire me right now?

Stuck on how to approach a project? Feeling uninspired in your business? Card reading can be the spark that reignites your creativity.

For example, pulling The Page of Cups might prompt you to approach a challenge with curiosity and playfulness, while The Ace of Wands could signal that it’s time to channel a bold, new idea into action.

Tarot encourages you to think outside the box and trust the process, making room for breakthroughs you might otherwise overlook.

When You Need to Break Through Limiting Beliefs

Ask the question: What mindset shift do I need to fully embrace my potential?

Even the most accomplished people face moments of self-doubt—those inner voices that whisper, What if I’m not good enough? What if I fail?

Card reading helps you address these beliefs head-on, transforming fear into empowerment. A card like The Devil can reveal where you’re holding yourself back, while The Strength card reminds you of your resilience and courage.

Through tarot, you can reframe limiting beliefs into opportunities for growth. The cards can help you identify and overcome what’s truly holding you back.

When You Need to Set Goals with Intention

Ask the question: What energy do I need to focus on to achieve my goals?

Goal-setting isn’t just about spreadsheets and timelines; it’s about aligning your ambitions with your inner truth and vision. Tarot can enhance this process by guiding you to set intentions that feel both practical and fulfil your life-purpose

For instance, before planning your next month’s goals, you might ask this question to help you consider where to focus your attention.
Cards like The Chariot or The Sun can provide motivation and a clear sense of direction, while a card like The Hanged Man might suggest the need to pause and shift perspectives or try a new approach.

Making Tarot Your Trusted Guide

At its core, card reading is a bridge between the logical and the intuitive, the practical and the spiritual. It reminds you that success isn’t just about doing more—it’s about taking action in an aligned and intentional way – deeply connected to your inner wisdom and your deep understanding and experience.

Incorporating tarot into your life isn’t about superstition — it’s about empowerment. It’s a tool that respects your intelligence, values your intuition and supports you in crafting a life and career that feels fully and truly aligned.

Keep a deck of cards in your desk-drawer and next time you’re faced with a tough decision, a creative block or a moment of self-doubt, reach for your cards. Know that the answer you need is already within you and ask the one simple question that will unlock it.

For any professional, the balance between business, personal life and spiritual growth can feel like walking a tightrope. You’ve set ambitious goals, but there’s also an inner voice urging you to stay true to something deeper—your intuition, your values, your higher self. This is where tarot reading was a game-changer for me, and where it can be for you, too.
